1890s 14K Gold & Old Mine Cut Diamond Blackamoor Chatelaine Brooch

– SOLD

A golden blackamoor figure with an Old Mine cut diamond embellished turban gazes stoically ahead in this antique chatelaine brooch, circa 1890s. His face is sculpted in 14K yellow gold with incredible detail, and features none of the caricature found in much blackamoor motif artwork. The contours of his face are given a satin finish and amazingly fine texture, displaying even the pores of his skin. The turban is formed with similar realism. Folds of cloth wind over themselves with lifelike gravity and Old Mine cut diamonds sparkle from their places intertwined in the fabric. The fine craftsmanship of the brooch makes this a truly unique piece of art. A 14K gold chatelaine hook on the reverse allows a watch or other pendant to hang, secured through via safety formed by the 'C' clasp pin itself.
