Circa 1900 14K Gold Chinese Dolphin Cufflinks
– $1,100 E2023
Handmade around the turn of the century, these late Victorian 14K gold cufflinks are a work of art. Chinese dolphins are the central image, drawing heavily from the early 20th Century fascination with with the exotic. They are sculpted in three dimensional relief, creating stunning hollows and areas of shadow. This sense of depth adds a new aspect to this traditionally flat medium of jewelry. The cufflinks fasten with the period's conventional push-through closure, and are held in a period green and gold presentation box, marked "Marshall Field & Co., Chicago".
